Ryan Hunt from Stretton Under Fosse has recently been selected to represent GB at Wild Water Racing in the Senior World Championships in Switzerland in June 2018.
Ryan will compete in both C1 and C2 classes in Switzerland, before travelling on to Banja Luka to compete in the World Cups.
He will then represent GB in the U23 Euorpean Championships in Macedonia in August.
Ryan can frequently be seen training on the canal in Brinklow and is supported by Rose Narrowboats.
Ryan juggles his training with doing a Phd in Astro Biology and as WWR is self funding. The support he gets from Rose Narrowboats helps considerably.

CLEARING
THE
COVENTRY CANAL
During the winter of 2017 through to March 2018 one of our workboats, “Cranfleet”, was used by volunteers to clear some of the Coventry Canal.
Below is a short report from Daniel Thompson, site supervisor for the Canal and River Trust.
“I am emailing you as I am genuinely proud and pleased of a small group of volunteers that have generously and tirelessly fought through the winter to tend and preserve the Coventry Canal.
At the beginning of October eleven volunteers were trained on pole saws and chippers all in the aim to cut back the vastly over grown Coventry Canal. Starting from the Coventry Canal Basin they have been out three days a week every week come rain or snow.
In the first week of March they completed their final day and reached Swan Lane Wharf which meant they had cut back 3km of thick vegetation and hundreds of small trees impeding the canal.
The Coventry Canal is a major historical land mark used by residents, tourists and commuters. With Coventry becoming the City of Culture very soon their achievement will be a huge benefit to all that use our canal.”
