In 2017 a couple from Hong Kong decided to do a 13 week tour of the English and Welsh canal system and chose Cameo, one of our 4 berth boats.
Below is a short description of their route with some of the photos that they sent us (they sent over 500 photos in total) to give you an idea of what could be achieved.

Their route took them initially to Oxford and back before heading north via the Coventry Canal to the Trent and Mersey Canal passing through Harecastle Tunnel and down the Cheshire Locks before going via the Middlewich branch onto the Llangollen.
They then retraced their steps, back up the Cheshire locks and through Harecastle Tunnel to explore the Caldon Canal, before heading north through Harecastle Tunnel yet again to travel Macclesfield Canal and on to the Peak Forest Canal as far as its terminus at Whaley Bridge. Next was down the Peak Forest and the Ashton Canal into Manchester before using the Rochdale Canal and Bridgewater Canal to get to northern end of the Trent and Mersey Canal at Preston Brook. They then travelled along the Trent and Mersey Canal to Anderton to go down the iconic Anderton lift onto the River Weaver (a first for any of our boats). Coming back up the Anderton lift they went to Middlewich for the third time but this time approaching from the north to cross the Middlewich branch to head up the Shropshire Union Canal to Autherley junction. This was followed by going down the Staffordshire and Worcestershire Canal to Stourport-on-Severn then down the River Severn through Worcester to Tewkesbury before going up the River Avon to Stratford-on-Avon. Next the locks came thick and fast up the Stratford Canal to Lapworth and south along the Grand Union Canal to Braunston. With about a week to spare before coming back to our base they took the opportunity to see the Leicester Section, passing through the staircase locks at Foxton to reach Market Harborough before eventually retracing their steps via Braunston and back to our boatyard at Brinklow. Nigel and Cora are already looking forward to further adventures, hopefully aboard Cameo. |
