Oxford Canal to Oxford
Forty locks each way on the Oxford Canal. This rural route includes some of the prettiest canal and scenery. Cruise down through the eastern Cotswolds to the ‘dreaming spires’ of Oxford.

The Warwickshire Ring
A popular route for the canal holidays enthusiast, contrasting stretches of great beauty and others of urbanisation; with 120 locks on the 110 miles of canals going through Gas Street Basin in Birmingham.
This route takes about 55 hours so can be done within a week, although a 10 day or 2 week trip allows a more leisurely cruise with time to visit places such as Warwick Castle, Drayton Manor Theme Park, Sea Life Centre, Cadburys World and much more. |
Stratford-on-Avon Canal
84 locks there and 84 locks back will make you fit, and still leave plenty of time to explore all the delights on the way -the beautiful Stratford Canal, Stratford-on-Avon itself and Warwick with its castle. This is more of a 10 day or 2 week cruise to do the 68 hours of cruising for the whole route.
|
The Birmingham Ring
Allows exploration of the Birmingham Canal Navigations taking you up to Great Haywood, down the Staffs, and Worcs. and back through Birmingham. This is one for the real enthusiast, and can be achieved in a 10 day canal holiday break with 107 locks to negotiate along the way.
|
The Leicester Loop
A varied route taking in parts of the Oxford Canal, the Grand Union Leicester Line, the River Soar, a short section of the River Trent, part of the Trent & Mersey Canal, and the Coventry Canal. The route includes five tunnels, several aqueducts, and 100 locks.
This canal holiday route can be navigated in 70 hours so a 10 day cruise is the minimum time required, but we suggest 2 weeks to allow more leisurely progress with time to visit the numerous places of interest and other canals branching off the main route. |
The South Oxford Canal & The River Thames
Taking the Oxford Canal south all the way to Oxford with a choice of going to either Lechslade or Reading on the River Thames creates an interesting route.
Lechslade would be 82 hours for the return journey with 50 locks each way (100 total) whilst taking the Reading cruise would be 110 locks (55 each way) with a journey time of 92 hours for the whole trip. |
Caldon Canal
An interesting route taking in the Oxford, Coventry, Trent & Mersey and Caldon Canals from the heart of England through the Potteries to the edge of Staffordshire moorlands.
78 Hours of cruising will take you on the 182 mile journey navigating 108 locks for this route. |
