All routes start from our base on the Northern section of the Oxford Canal between Rugby and Coventry.

Grand Union to Warwick
South on the Oxford Canal before going North on the Grand Union Canal with 26 locks each way (52 in total) will take about 30 hours of cruising time giving enough time to visit Warwick Castle or other places of interest along the route.

Oxford, Coventry & Ashby Canals
For the newcomer to narrowboating this can be an easy route to get you started. Initially going North will take you through the only lock at Hawkesbury before a lock free Ashby Canal.
Once you have mastered this then you can travel South to Braunston to give you some more experience with the easy locks there. 36 hours and 8 locks for the whole route. |
Grand Union Canal to Milton Keynes
South to Braunston on the Oxford Canal before continuing South on the Grand Union Canal will give you a return journey of 40 hours with 48 locks.
Optional extension to Leighton Buzzard with an extra 12 hours and 12 locks. |
Oxford Canal to Banbury
A very popular and easy route with only single width locks to negotiate on the Oxford Canal all the way. A 43 hour return journey with 58 locks (29 there and 29 back) through some lovely countryside.

Trent & Mersey Canal and Coventry Canal to Great Haywood
Going North from our base at Rose Narrowboats initially on the Oxford Canal before joining the Coventry Canal and ultimately the Trent and Mersey Canal will take you to Great Haywood.
This gives you a cruising time of 42 hours with 38 locks (19 each way) to Great Haywood. |
Grand Union Canal to Market Harborough
Single-width, double-width and staircase locks with 4 tunnels of varying lengths on the Oxford, Grand Union and Grand Union Leicester Section gives a very varied route covering 42 hours of cruising going through 52 locks (26 each way).
Why not add a couple of hours to your trip by going down the Welford Arm with one extra lock there and back. |
The Warwickshire Ring
A popular route for the canal holidays enthusiast, contrasting stretches of great beauty and others of urbanisation; with 120 locks on the 110 miles of canals going through Gas Street Basin in Birmingham.
This route takes about 55 hours so can be done within a week, although a 10 day or 2 week trip allows a more leisurely cruise with time to visit places such as Warwick Castle, Drayton Manor Theme Park, Sea Life Centre, Cadburys World and much more. |
Trent & Mersey Canal and Coventry Canal to
Burton-on-Trent Going North from our base at Rose Narrowboats initially on the Oxford Canal before joining the Coventry Canal and ultimately the Trent and Mersey Canal will take you to Burton-on-Trent.
This gives you a cruising time of 42 hours with 50 locks (25 each way) to Burton-on-Trent. |
